The Andoke people infuse the crushed leaves with water and apply it to their eyes to promote sharp vision and understanding.
Habitat
Psychotria viridis is a perennial tree or shrub native to the Amazonian lowlands and commonly found in wet, tropical forests throughout northern South America and much of Central America. It grows to approximately five meters in height and produces papery elliptic leaves, grayish to reddish-brown when dried. Its open, inflorescent flowers turn into small red fruits.
