Scientific Information
Banisteriopsis caapi, also known as Ayahuasca, is a giant woody vine belonging to the Malpighiaceae family that grows in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil. Many Amazonian tribes regard B. caapi as a plant of the gods and a Master Plant Teacher. This sacred plant is richly steeped in cultural mythology and has been used in ritual practices by countless South American tribes for thousands of years. It is revered internationally for its healing power and is arguably one of the most fascinating entheogens on earth.
The deep brown stems of B. caapi contain various chemical constituents, including harmine, harmaline, and tetrahydro harmine, which are classified as harmala alkaloids and MAOI’s. Scientific analysis has identified the vines to constitute approximately 0.11-0.83% beta-carboline, with the majority being the harmaline and tetrahydroharmaline. The vine also contains several alkaloids.

What is Rapé?
Rapé is a traditional snuff used by various indigenous tribes of South America, predominantly tribal people from Brazil and Peru. Rapé blends contain a ground mixture of plants, tree bark, seeds, and ash. The fine powder is blown into each nostril through a bone or bamboo pipe called a ‘Tepi’ or ‘Kuripe’. The Tepi applicator is a long blow pipe that connects the nostril of the receiver to the mouth of the person that administers the snuff. The Kuripe is for self-application. The V-shaped applicator connects the nostril to the mouth allowing the snuff to be self-blown into the nose.
Each tribe has its own rapé formula, and usually, it is women who gather the ingredients. The selection, mixture, and grinding process are regarded as a ritual only to be performed by a reputable healer. The use of Rapé aims to restore our connection to nature and a sense of grounding. It clears mental fog and confusion while eliminating negative thought patterns, bringing about physical and spiritual wellness.
